Sushmita Sen, who won the title for Miss Universe in the Philippines on May 21, 1994, says nothing has changed since the time she won the title except for the years gone by. At the time when she won, she was just 18.
Walking down the memory lane, Sushmita shared a picture of her 18-year-old when she was conferred with the coveted title. She also wrote a heartwarming post expressing her gratitude to her fans.
She wrote: “I was 18-years-old when India won Miss Universe for the very first time on May 21, 1994. I am 42 now, still a ‘miss’ with a ‘universe’ inside me. Nothing has changed except the years.”
”Thank you guys for the letters, cards and gifts but mostly for remembering the universe is lovingly abundant and so what we give out, we get more of. I celebrate with you India and Philippines (my second home),” she added.
Sushmita Sen is the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title in 1994. In the Miss India peagent held at Goa back in January 16, 1994 Sushmita had beaten Aishwarya and crowned as Miss India 1994.
Both Sushmita and Aishwarya were locked in a tie and it was their answers during the tie-breaker round that Sushmita managed to beat Aish to win the title. Sushmita and Aishwarya went on to represent India at Miss Universe and Miss World pageants and both the crowns came home that year.
