PM Narendra Modi to visit Indonesia and Singapore

Two of the key strategic partners of India in South East Asia, Singapore & Indonesia within the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) from 29 May to 2 June.India is expected to focus on agreements like defense, Skill development and connectivity.

“As far as defense cooperation with Indonesia is concerned, there is interest on maritime domain awareness and Navy-to-Navy cooperation is an important element (in this). We are also talking in terms of the renewal of the defense cooperation agreement,” said Priti Saran, Secretary in-charge of the eastern hemisphere in the Ministry.

India and Indonesia are likely to sign a pact on defense cooperation. Secretary (East) in the MEA Preeti Saran said the Prime Minister will arrive in Indonesia on May 29 for a two day visit, he will then leave for Singapore from there on May 31.

In Singapore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the keynote address at the Shangri-La dialogue on June 1, said Ms Saran.This will be the Prime Minister’s first official visit to Indonesia and his second official visit to Singapore.
