Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Russia’s Sochi for an informal summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
PM Modi congratulated President Putin for being elected for the fourth time. Along with that, PM Modi said that President Putin has a special relationship with India. Russia has special significance in my political career.
Highlighting the importance of relations between India and Russia, PM Modi said, “India and Russia have been friends for a long time. I thank President Putin for inviting me for the informal talks.’
PM Narendra Modi said that Russia had played an important role in getting India permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Now India and Russia are working together in the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and BRICS.

PM Modi says the strategic partnership between India and Russia has now been elevated into a “special privileged strategic partnership”.
PM Narendra Modi is in Russia only for a day for this summit at the invitation of President Putin. President Putin and PM Modi last met in June 2017 and this is the first ‘informal submit between two leaders.
Earlier this month, Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale visited Moscow. The focus of both the leaders was on the Afghan issue and the situation in West Asia.
Yesterday, Modi said in his tweet, ”Am confident the talks with president Putin will further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.”
Before went to Russia, Narendra Modi said in a Tweet, ”Greetings to the friendly people of Russia. I look forward to my visit to Sochi tomorrow and my meeting with President Putin. It is always a pleasure to meet him.”
