Netherlands PM Mark Rutte Arrives In India On Two-Day Visit

Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte arrived in India on a two-day visit on 24-25 May. The Dutch leaders’s visit comes within a year of Modi’s visit to the Netherlands last June. This will be Rutte’s second visit to India since June 2015 but the first after being re-elected Prime Minister in 2017.

PM Rutte’s agenda is a bilateral summit with PM Modi and a visit to ISRO among the other things. Netherlands PM visit is expected to boost the economic and political cooperation between India and the Netherlands.

External affairs Ministry statement, over 230 business delegates representing 130 companies have registered to join the trade mission accompanying Rutte to India.

India and and the Netherlands have a bilateral trade of 5.39 billion dolars. The Netherlands is the 5th largest investor in India.

“I had called upon the Netherlands to join the International Solar Alliance and I am happy to tell you that the country has become a member of it today (24 May),” Modi said.

In his comments, Rutte said there was a huge scope for the two countries to deepen cooperation in areas of trade and investment, clean energy, agriculture and smart cities

Netherland Prime Minister scheduled to participate in a Clean Ganga event as well as a start-up event in New Delhi and he also address a public event at Hotel Taj Diplomatic in the national capital and participate in an agro event in the evening.  Then from New Delhi, he will depart for Bengaluru later tonight.
