Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets in the match number 33 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 11. Match played at the Kolkata’s home ground Eden Gardens, after losing the toss Chennai Super Kings batted first and scored 177/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing 178 for victory, Shubham Gill (57) and Dinesh Karthik (45) added an unbroken 83 runs off just 36 balls as hosts KKR chased down the competitive 178-run target in 17.4 overs.
Robin Uthappa (6) did not last long, top-edging a mistimed pull to Dwayne Bravo at midwicket off Asif. Narine, who set the platform for KKR’s chase, holed out to Bravo in the deep off Jadeja.
Young batsman Shubham Gill played an unbeaten 57 runs off 36 balls with six fours and two sixes. Captain Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 45 off 18 balls with seven fours and a six. Sunil Narine also scored 32 runs off 20 balls with four fours and two sixes. With this defeat, Chennai Superkings has slipped to second position with 12 points in nine matches. KKR moved to third spot having 10 points from nine matches.
Earlier, Dhoni continued his good form with the bat and made the most of Gill dropping him on 29.
The 36-year old hit four sixes and one four, stitching together a 54-run stand for the fifth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja (12).
Young CSK pacer Shivam Mavi also impressed with his pace and bounce but went wicketless giving away 21 runs from three overs.
CSK scored bulk of their runs against Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Johnson who leaked 51 runs from his four overs.
Suresh Raina (31) also failed to score big before as he was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. Raina, however, achieved a personal milestone becoming the leading rungetter with 4776 runs in IPL history.
