India-supported expansion of Maldives airport begun

India has started working on the expansion of Hanimaadhoo International Airport in the northern Maldives.

The expansion of the airport includes– an extension of the runway to 2,200 metres.

Earlier, India had announced USD 250 million loans to the Maldives to deal with COVID-19’s economic impact.
