Batting up first, Indian put up a decent total of 161 for seven in 20 overs while Australia could manage only 150 for 7 in 20 overs.
India, who have now taken a 1-0 lead, will now take on Australia in their second T20I at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday.
