According to reports, Jalan was first arrested in 2008 for IPL betting. He allegedly has links with Karachi-based terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and his name also cropped up during the IPL scam busted by Mumbai Police in 2012.
Jalan reportedly has close connection with D-Company and fixed IPL and international matches.
The betting ring that was being operated from Dombivali was busted by Thane police’s anti-extortion cell on May 15. Four were arrested in the case.
Sonu Jalan allegedly had a diary with details of clients and bookies. The police say he worked for a kingpin of cricket betting who goes by the name of “Junior Kolkata”.
The Thane police yesterday issued summons to Arbaaz Khan to record his statement today in connection with the betting racket.
